Pros
I try to give really good advice among all the sales blather. Right now, I really need to work from home. It's meaningful to be able to choose my major relationships and environment.
Cons
It's a rigid schedule, and I just loathe selling things. It's humiliating and disgusting to me that I worked my whole life as an academic and THIS is the job I can get. I got hired, they quickly promoted me, I got all this sales training. They tell you repeatedly that if you just do your job well and practice, that you can get promoted quickly. At first, I thought it would work out for me. I was doing well and earning bonuses (on my incredibly bad pay, $40K/year) as the opening consultant who brings warm leads to the senior consultants. They quickly promoted me. But I cannot sell anywhere near my new quota now that I got promoted. Is this an unusual experience? Am I about to be fired? I've not even been doing the senior job a month now. I need the job, for now, because the market for instructional designers (my real career) is very tough right now.
