Pros

This is a tech company that operates itself as a hospitality company. The team works hard everyday to help the company succeed, regardless recent changes to the org. chart. The new office is awesome, finally feel like a real company. Snacks and swag have given new life to the frustrated team.

Cons

Contrary to other reviews, VenueBook is having significant difficulty in acquiring users and customers, retaining employees, and overcoming major technical debt that prevents progress. The new office has been a great perk over the difficulty of the recent months, however it does not mask the bleeding we see across the company. The company hasn't figured out basic things: internet doesn't work, noise is a huge problem, and its freezing all the time. Everything is delayed with no marketing department and customer facing teams have been asking for customer collateral for months. Transparency does not exist. A lack of transparency from upper management and high turnover of key leaders causes weekly shifts in product, direction and goals. The company is unsure of the future of the product and the product team is no longer with the company, leaving us without a roadmap to present to customers and prospects. Projects that should be weekend overhauls drag on for months at a time with no real goal or result.

Pros

As an intern, it was so exciting to see all this creativity in an environment where the product and business goals are constantly updating. Everyone is exceptional at their job so of course it was difficult to keep up, but it was made manageable by the responsive and supportive community. They made me feel like my work was making an impact, which motivated me even more every day. Also, the bond formed in the department I was in was based off of trust, which made us so strong and productive. That also contributed to my personal work endeavors. My internship also extended into social media work— managing some accounts with the other interns. The experience I gained here is incomparable elsewhere. My excel skills, project management skills, blog writing skills (and more) have substantially improved. Although everyone in the company knows how to work, they also know how to have fun…every moment of every day. There is so much laughter and fun that goes on, it made me look forward to each work day. Perks of my internship: - free snacks all day - this company knows good snacks - guidance by a group of highly intelligent individuals - genuine fun each day - paid lunch and transportation

Cons

The internship is unpaid which is definitely difficult to deal with sometimes. Some internal processes are very manual which takes away a bit of energy from actual things that need to get done— especially for business ops. But to an extent, this is understandable since it’s a start-up and not technologically perfect. There is a high staff turnover — my manager actually left unexpectedly leaving me confused. But as the community is so supportive, through a collaborative effort we were able to proceed with our everyday tasks.
