Pros

Verizon's medical, dental, 401k match benefits are comparable to the market. However the one thing they are desperately missing is the ability to work from home except of course if you are working off hours to support global clients or you are on call then work from home is not only acceptable but expected. Leadership uses the excuse that we are now Agile and working collaboratively and everyone needs to be onsite. Many other IT companies use an Agile methodology and allow their employees to work from home. Verizon Telematics needs to get with the program of work life balance

Cons

I have thought long and hard about writing this review because I am not one to complain publicly, however after witnessing what I feel is behavior that goes against the “Verizon Credo” I can no longer remain silent. Leadership across the board needs to be trained on how to talk, coach and interact with individuals. Several bad managers are making it difficult for the few “good” ones that remain. Without the support of Human Resources and Top leadership Verizon Telematics will continue to lose great talent. Recently Verizon has hired 5 Indian men into key leadership positions within IT. While I understand an “executive search” firm and believe you’ve hired the “best” individuals for roles the lack of diversity in race and gender is apparent and causing major cultural issues or what is better known as Corporate Tribalism. This has caused a significant decrease in employee morale and fear of retaliation if a complaint is raised making it a hostile environment to work Employees attempt to spawn change by raising issues to HR. However, Human Resources is practically non-existent. It takes days sometimes weeks to hear back from them when you want to lodge a complaint. Employees have to resort to filing EEOC complaints or calling Verizon Corporate in order to be heard or see some type of investigation/movement. Examples are too many too list but here are some of the top complaints - Several individuals have been forced to perform duties they are not skilled or have no training (ie. server reboot) and threatened that their performance rating will be impacted because of it. When brought to the attention of the Andres nothing happened as this is still going on - Several females have experienced being ignored, intentionally overlooked, and opinions dismissed directly by leadership. Sometimes they are not invited to key decision making meetings where they clearly are the subject matter expert. Their ideas are only heard when shared through a male counterpart which stifles the sharing creative and innovative ideas - Individuals have been insulted, criticized about their physical appearance and harassed with inappropriate comments. When reported to HR nothing has happened as the individual(s) are still present and often makes it a difficult environment for the individuals to work

Pros

There is a base salary and a commission. The benefits are good. It's a set Monday through Friday schedule, mostly. If you don't have a career path or an advanced education this job has more to offer than many jobs out there.

Cons

Constant high pressure mentality. Expect to be talked down to a lot. Don't plan on being treated like a person. You are only as good as your current month. If you were number one last month, but your numbers are not what they want this month you will get publically called on it. There is lots of public shaming in front of the entire team. The promotions are heavily based on who your friends are, and they are rarely based on actual performance. Higher education will not help you advance up the ladder. Although you have a set Monday through Friday schedule, you are required to hit your daily call quota before you leave. It's common for employees to put in extra time to meet the quota, and you may get contacted on weekends or afterhours to respond to leads. There is also a lot of lead stealing and reassignment of good leads to friends of the managers. It is not uncommon for an employee to work a lead or get results with a lead only to have that lead transferred to a manger's friend. Inbound hot leads are often assigned to friends of management as well.
