Pros

They did pay fairly well and had good benefits

Cons

ViaSat was a good company for a while. Like any company that wants to grow, they made some questionable decisions. On top of that, they had some bad luck with satellites that they launched, but failed to operate. A merger with Immarsat led to 350 people being laid off in March 2023. Two satellite failures that were announced in June 2023 led to a layoff of 800 people in November of 2023. Many talented, hard workers were laid off. A large portion of these employees helped build the company and worked there for several years. Even though they claimed that they were laying people off of all ages, they definitely laid off employees that were there a long time and probably wanted to shed some of the higher salaries that those employees had. Given that, they did provide a good severance for many of the employees that were laid off. Before the layoffs, the company became more demanding over time and wanted more time and responsibilities from employees with a decent yearly increase in salary, but nothing substantial and it hardly kept up with inflation. They did not offer any bonuses unless the person was with upper management. Their stock has been in a freefall for the last 9+ months. Right now, I would not suggest for anyone to take a job there because they appear to be floundering and additional layoff seem inevitable.

Pros

There is freedom to approach each project as you see fit. Strong support from senior leadership.

Cons

When several programs peak at the same time the hours start to creep up pretty quickly.
