Not worth the pay - Security Officer Vinson Guard Service Employee Review

Pros

The branch manager is decent when he's not overly stressed trying to correct upper management's faulty decision making.

Cons

No benefits, and the pay is very very low compared to other security companies. Vinson will underbid to get contracts so they offer less hourly pay. Starting pay is generally in the $8 range with the most you making to be $10 but that's after a few years. Don't count on Vinson being able to provide coverage for you if you have a family emergency. You could be required to stay at your post to work another 8 hours because they are constantly understaffed. No possible advancement unless someone leaves. . Even as an entry level position, the pay is not worth it. Better to start off at a different company that pays better. Also, training is basically nonexistent. You watch some videos on workplace violence but you learn everything else at your job site but ONLY if your trainer actually cares to train you. The only reason you should work here is if you are retired and bored sitting at home

Pros

Minimal contact with actual employer. A great client makes for a great working experience. Huntsville Utilities in my case, whose employees made a full time job an excellent experience.

Cons

Minimal contact which makes for bogus performance evaluations. In 3 years I never missed a single day. Always professional, always smiling, ever attentive. Built excellent rapport with client and was told I left enormous shoes for the next guard to fill. Never caused problems, never asked for anything special. Went above and beyond the call of duty a number of times and would at any time for the client. Always accepted additional shifts at other Vinson sites beyond my regular 40 when asked. However my yearly evaluations were always at about 3/5 with the reason being lack of creativity in relation to solving problems, or some nonsense to that effect. On more than one occasion I massaged and elevated an employee's leg for an hour while waiting for an ambulance. I believe the lackluster review was only justification for not having to give my a raise, ever. So for 3 years of full time devotion with perfect attendance and abundant adoration from multiple employees of the client, I was paid no more than $8/hr or ever once commended by my ACTUAL employer. Good thing virtue is its own reward.
