Pros
It's a beautiful environment, the campus is pretty, the facilities are well taken care of, and the town is generally quiet and very safe. The cost of living in the area is very reasonable, and Virginia Tech knows this. But, depending on what position you're seeking, you may be renumerated adequately anyway. This is a big organization and like all big orgs you'll have good and bad. Generally speaking, however, I've been in this environment for 20+ years and I can say I've rarely heard a bad review. Virginia Tech is a good place to work, to grow, to stay or to be from. If you're looking, and something is available, I'd recommend you apply. Try it out.
Cons
Because of it's geographic location, and the low cost of living there, they can get away with lower salaries. Your mileage may vary.
