Pros

A lot of my coworkers were great people, which is true anywhere. The clients I got to work with were impressive, even if the work wasn't. The work I did at Vitech added a number of bullets to my resume. I'm thankful for the lessons learned, the people I met and the experience I gained to get a better job elsewhere.

Cons

The work is completely uninspiring. You are programming solely in T-SQL. For warehouse systems. For an analog screen the size of a child's palm. Every minute of your day needs to be logged manually by you in a home grown digital log book because Vitech hasn't learned about Agile yet. They have no version control. If you think their outdated, unresponsive website is indicative of the technology they sell, the culture they have, and the kind of programming you will perform, you are correct. The owners had a streak of success in the 90s, decided to hire their family into their business and then decided to never change the company ever again because of the risk of failure. Some people in the tech community are ok with this kind of thinking, but most people who enter the tech sector are here because they like innovation and change. This is a family owned operation. I learned that this means you will get blamed for problems on a project before the owner's brother will. This also means the owners siblings will be promoted before you will. Innovation is not a word Vitech is familiar with. If you have ideas, if you have constructive feedback on how the company, process or product can be improved, expect to not be heard. During a season when the company wasn't doing as well as it was in years past, the owner sent out an inspiring company wide email blaming all of his employees instead of discussing how his contribution as a leader played a part in our numbers that month. This is the definition of leadership and accountability at Vitech. The owners openly let you know about their political status, which is conservative. When our healthcare policy changed, they sent out a company wide email openly complaining about Obama. A person that we interviewed, a younger girl, mentioned that our HR department asked if she was going to get married soon. This illegal question does not surprise me because the owners continue to hire family and friends for non-technical positions over people who are qualified. The company does not support anyone improving themselves through education or certification.

Pros

The people are great, the culture is even better, and the owners truly care about the employees. Sometimes the work days are long, and the demand on you is high, but it's all worth it. There is truly a team atmosphere and everyone looks after each other.

Cons

There really are no major cons to working here.

Pros

We have an amazing group of enthusiastic and entrepreneurial minded individuals that enjoy work and the value of having a life outside of the office. Work life balance here is unlike any other company I have worked for and the ability to actually make a difference is encouraged and supported by leadership. Work hours and dress code is flexible and they really do a good job a minimizing work travel whenever possible. Vitech is growing fast and is not afraid to try new strategies. The company is always looking for better ways to operate and the employees are key for helping drive change.

Cons

Smaller companies are always going to be a little short on resources and sometimes you need to juggle a lot of moving parts. Leadership is very aware of the volume of opportunities they peruse and do a good job of keeping back the flood gates so that we are not overwhelmed. However, it can get a little crazy at times and be frustrating when there is a lot going on at once. But the great part about Vitech culture is that if you are struggling, everyone here will pitch in and do whatever they can to help.
