Toxic Work Environment Lead To Mental Health Issues - Marketing Coordinator Volition Beauty Employee Review

Pros

Office did not require a dress code, very casual.

Cons

After working for Volition I struggled with anxiety and panic attacks induced by the toxic work environment. For a company that preaches women empowerment outwardly, the sad reality internally is the complete opposite. The founders show little respect for employees, the workload is unmanageable and the timelines are impossible. Although there was “unlimited PTO” employees would be guilt tripped into working late nights and nearly 7 days a week. On multiple occasions one of the founders stormed out of the office and yelled at vendors in front of the staff. The other founder was so withdrawn from the staff she was out of touch with the day to day struggles. It wasn’t until months after leaving I was able to regain confidence in my work and realize how poorly I had been treated.

Pros

Good experience breaking into the beauty/social media industry Lots of responsibility even as an intern

Cons

-Zero Onboarding. You will be thrown into hard and possibly unfamiliar work with no guidance. -Management somehow finds a seemingly impossible balance of micromanaging and dumping massive projects onto interns with zero guidance. -One of the founders can be very toxic and demanding. Texting late-night and hounding for after-hours work, but getting mad when those hours were billed and invoiced. -Was given major projects by management, but admonished for billing the actual hours it took to complete them. -The pay is low for the Bay Area. -Lots of turnover. Everyone who leaves is replaced with unpaid interns.
