Pros
Wylie has a pretty relaxed work environment overall, flexible hours, and half day Fridays when workload allows for it. They don't micro-manage, and employees have the freedom to design on their own. The office itself is very nice and conveniently located in Greenway Plaza. Vacation time is separate from sick time, which typically turns out to be an advantage over the lump "PTO" plan that many other companies are offering.
Cons
It's not a bad place to work, just don't expect them to consider your growth or advancement a priority in any way. Pay is marginally competitive, and raises are few and far between- the owners openly admit that they don't do cost of living increases, but insist that you can earn more by working overtime. They claim to do annual reviews, but it's quite obviously the least important thing from them to do, as they're often skipped and rescheduled and delayed so many times that they just aren't done at all until maybe the next year. Personnel development simply isn't a priority, and management is incredibly disorganized. Job security is questionable as they have a hard time managing project workload, hiring when they get busy and releasing employees when they've lost projects and clients- they've had at least 5 rounds of layoffs since 2009, releasing 5 or 6 employees each time, even releasing employees that had been with the company over 10, 20 years in several cases. The owners, every VP, every project manager, and every assistant project manager are mechanical, and it's clear that the mechanical engineers are the favorites- they have only one electrical engineer that's been with them for more than 3 years, and the reasons are obvious. Finally, health insurance is ok for the single working person, but incredibly expensive for employees who need to cover a member of their family.
