Pros

I enjoyed working at Walgreens because the company is financially stable and therefore offers good pay and benefits realtive to each position. The 401k plan is second to none. Assistant managers start as hourly employees and therfore cannot work over 40 hrs/wk. The work duties are predictable; there are few "surprises". The assistant manager supervises about 4 employees on the sales floor, so it's easy to monitor employees' work. Most stores see under 1000 customers a day. I usually was able to complete all the store manager's assignments without being crunched for time. My co-workers were generally professional and I was able to work well with most other employees.

Cons

Your work experience will highly depend on the manager of the store. My current supervisor was technically competent but struggled with his relationships to the assistant managers. The company's Register Rewards program creates a Pandora's box of problems with people trying to abuse the coupons, and the company is not supporting the front-line employees who must shoulder this burden. It needs to be retired. The cash registers are outdated and frequently stop working. The company's new store openings have slowed drastically; it's now more difficult to advance unless one is willing to relocate. The company offers little in performance incentives for hourly employees. The low staff numbers means one employees' absence has a marked effect on productivity for the day. Usually I was the only manager on duty so I was on call and could not devote large periods of time to learning about office and pharmacy operations without interruptions.

Pros

The management is accommodating and doesn't ask of to much.

Cons

At one point the heat was out during the winter, but i'll say that this was only for about a week.

Pros

Can be a fun environment. All in whom your staff is. Operating photo was fun and building projects for the customers. Learning about pharmacy operations.

Cons

Work life balance and low pay for what is expected. Not having enough payroll to effectively run a store. My store ran FE on a 320 hour a week budget. That was barely enough to get buy and meet the expectations put out by the company. I was never able to keep a full leadership staff. When a leader called out, I had to stay. There were days I was called away from my own dinner table. SM's were forced to be in the pharmacy for more than half of their day regardless as to what is happening in the FE. I worked over 50 hours a week and barely got to spend time with my family. If I wasn't at the store I was getting a phone call and having to go back to the store.
