Pros
- The team I had worked with in the shop
Cons
Absolutely one of the worst places I’ve ever worked. Warren James has zero respect for its staff and treats employees as completely disposable. Breaks are ridiculously short, and there isn’t even a proper break area. You’re expected to just accept that and get on with it like it’s normal. Despite the store already being cleaned thoroughly in the morning, you’re still expected to constantly clean the entire shift, as if that’s your main job. It feels like pointless busywork rather than anything productive, and it’s exhausting and demoralising. Training is basically non-existent. You’re expected to magically know what you’re doing from day one, yet no one actually shows you properly. Mistakes are frowned upon even though the company fails to train you in the first place. They treat everyone like they’re “on £30 an hour” while actually paying minimum wage. Overtime during Christmas is expected, not appreciated, and certainly not rewarded. You’re pushed to do it like it’s a given. On top of that, you’re expected to do manager-level responsibilities while being paid far less, which is completely unfair. The company also seems completely outdated and careless about the environment. Everything is done through endless paperwork, excessive paper and plastic, and they even still rely on fax machines instead of a proper computer system. Nothing is streamlined — everything is slow, inefficient, and wasteful. They don’t genuinely care about customers either; it’s all about making as much money as possible, regardless of how staff or customers are treated. Overall, it’s a company that overworks, underpays, undertrains, and disrespects its employees at every turn. I wouldn’t recommend working here to anyone who values their time, mental health, or basic workplace respect.
