Pros

Some of the staff are very capable and friendly.

Cons

Poor leadership and a culture of fear which has led people in management to distort events to suit their agenda. High staff turnover - small uk team of 8 and yet 6 people (at least) have resigned in the last year. They just re advertise the vacancies or create new job roles to conceal extent of staff retention problem. Avoid.

Water Witness Response

As an organisation the health and wellbeing of our team and partners have always been our top priorities, and we have a zero-tolerance policy on bullying, harassment and unprofessional conduct. We have systems in place to identify and deal with any such behaviour quickly and fully. We also have clear policies and processes in place should any staff member wish to raise a formal grievance, and multiple formal and informal routes to enable our team to raise any issues, including anonymously if they wish to do so. None of our employees has ever raised a formal grievance during or after their time with the organisation. Like many NGOs, we operate in an often short-term and unpredictable funding landscape, and it is not unusual for those working in the charity sector to be based on fixed short-term contracts. And as in all workplaces, sometimes appointments simply don’t work out. Happily, most of our dedicated team have been with Water Witness for many years. The review’s assertions about staff retention are not factually correct. Two people have resigned in the last 12 months by mutual agreement, and one person took up an exciting new opportunity as they were coming to the end of their fixed-term contract. We are confident this doesn’t equate to a staff retention problem. We are committed to continual learning, and adopting staff feedback to make Water Witness the best possible place to work. Should any prospective employee or candidate wish to discuss our approach to ensuing staff wellbeing and a cohesive work culture then we’d be pleased to be in touch.

Pros

Some nice colleagues, before they were ground down

Cons

Toxic management. Micro management plus harassment. Hardly anyone I knew stayed more than 12 months.
