Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It is great to hear you are enjoying the variety of work and making the most of the socials arranged to foster good working relationships. We appreciate our pension offering may not compare with others, but as you say, we endeavour to make up for that with competitive pay, leaving individuals to decide if they want to boost their pension contributions themselves, or use the money to purchase from our wide selection of salary sacrifice benefits. Wishing you many more years of enjoyment and satisfaction with Waterman Aspen!

Pros

The secondment model means you work directly within client organisations, which provides excellent exposure to major infrastructure programmes and decision-making environments. This can be particularly valuable for engineers who want to broaden their experience and build strong industry relationships. The company is supportive of professional development and Chartership, and many colleagues are working towards professional qualifications with support from mentors. There is generally a high level of trust and autonomy, and work–life balance is often better than in many consultancies. They also have pathways to progression so once you hit those competencies you can earn your promotion rather than waiting until a vacancy comes up like in other consultancies. You get to go to many social events each year with colleagues that you wouldn't normally see day-to-day whilst on secondment so that's a nice way to maintain the connections. Options available to be a salaried employee or hourly paid contractor so there is a working arrangement to suit anyone.

Cons

As the company operates through secondments the day-to-day experience varies for each person and sometimes a bit of travel is required (however, my secondment doesn't need me in the office regularly). It can make it hard sometimes to feel connected with the company as a whole but there are socials, EDI networks, Grapevine newsletter and if you needed to speak to someone then management or other secondees are always there and happy to have a chat.

Thank you for an excellent summary of the pros and cons of working with Waterman Aspen on secondment. We have been working hard to improve how we support the professional development of our colleagues as well as our general on-going management support. This is particularly important as our colleagues work within the offices of our clients – or from home – and we want everyone to still feel connected to our company
