Pros

If you’re looking for a place to build your career, this probably isn’t it. Especially if you’re a woman who’s outspoken or cares about calling out issues. Promotions mostly go to men, particularly the ones who always agree with whatever the CEO wants. The leadership style is all over the place, and the CEO's mood can change the direction of the whole business (and your job!!) overnight. It makes things feel pretty unstable. That said, it’s not all bad. The projects can be genuinely fun. There used to be some travel involved and good benefits though many of those perks have been reduced over the past year.

Cons

– An unstable work environment – Inexperienced leadership – No clear growth strategy for the business

Many thanks for your feedback about your 5 years at Web Summit. I'm sorry to hear you had mixed feelings about your experience in the end. I would like to add to your comments, and highlight that we have many people who have built careers in Web Summit, from entry level to VP level, including many of our current female leaders in the business, across multiple territories. We also have many employees with 10 years service. Our C-Level team has extensive international experience, working for large SMEs and multinationals in senior roles in the past. As one of the most successful Irish startups from the last 15 years, we will continue to improve our employee experience, and we once again appreciate your feedback. If you have any additional comments, feel free to reach out to me directly. Regards Sebastian White VP of People Operations

Pros

the events and the people are great.

Cons

management is inexperienced. the company is in transition/growth mode and experiencing major growing pains. their track record of ending employee contracts abruptly without warning/reason/notice is insane. in the case of sales, they end all communication once you are out the door and don't pay out commissions owed (?!)

Pros

Struggling to find any, to be fair.

Cons

It's a boys club, and many of the propaganda spewed by the CEO is to use managers as tokens of diversity. Managers are ill-prepared, and will eventually push you out - no matter how well you perform. You will go far if you are a rule follower, but that's about it. The role is one of a call center - you are expected to take on 15-18 meetings a day for 20 minutes each only to be at the bottom of the company. Do not expect to be taken seriously if you are apart of the Startups team. Also, tenure in the company supersedes results.
