Pros
Mediware has experienced a great deal of growth primarily through acquiring companies in similar markets. This creates a great deal of opportunity both short and long term. Good employees are valued and the Management looks for ways to utilize them in different areas of the company as the needs change. A good place to be for specialists and even better place for generalists or specialists willing to learn new things. The office in Lenexa does try to do some extra things for the employees, like lunches/cook outs, contests like a chili cook off or best salsa. The ice cream truck comes regularly in the summer and last year the office spent a day at the KC Royals game and there is an annual Holiday Party with food, drink, music, etc. Most employees are helpful and willing to help new employees be successful.
Cons
Performance expectations are high, but based on my expereince with other similar companies, they are not as high as other competitors, particularly in the Kansas City area. You are expected to work hard and at times that means more than 40 hours a week, but I would not call this a sweatshop. The parking lot is usually empty by 6:00 PM most nights. High emphasis on cost management, which means spending money on anything is highly scrutinized and layoffs are common in the past few years. Most, but not all, employees that are laid off are not providing value to the company and if they are aware of the world around them, are not surprised when it happens. Internal processes are generally not standardized or documented, making it a challenge for someone new.
