Good job, terrible culture - Circulation Assistant West Fargo Public Library Employee Review

Pros

The job on it's own is extremely satisfying and relaxing (as relaxing as a service job can be anyways). Wonderful to be around books and book lovers all day.

Cons

The daytime manager is petty, vindictive, and untrustworthy; traits that do not well befit her role. Staff upstairs can be standoffish towards downstairs staff, creating an 'us vs. them' dynamic. While the hourly compensation may be competitive for the local libraries, it does not make up for the lack of hours or benefits. In spite of the romance of library working, your material needs and career would almost certainly be served better elsewhere.

Pros

- You are surrounded by great people to work with, both in front of and behind the counter. - The job requires versatility so it is rarely boring.

Cons

- If you work part-time, the limited hours ensure that you have to work another additional job. - Part-time workers are seen as replaceable

Pros

- staff works hard, is kind, and dedication to patrons is excellent - population growth means lots of room to improve and enhance services -loyal patrons -great salary - again, EXCELLENT staff

Cons

-the last two Directors have been impossible, neither made an effort to LISTEN to what their staff was telling them -both had a strict hierarchical view on leadership and had no desire to foster teamwork -the last two Directors didn't have enough experience to be leaders- they made a lot of mistakes with staff and lost good people -current Director is impulsive, doesn't consult with her staff, and wants to micromanage *every* aspect of collection development
