not a female friendly company - Maintenance Tech II Western Aircraft Employee Review

Pros

Uniforms, laundry service and the occasional catered lunch. For the most part their maintenance department has some really good and competent people.

Cons

I've watched them run off multiple female maintainers who have completely left the aviation industry. I watched as one female maintainer was refused Tech II with raise until she got her second rating and when she did they delayed her pay raise while they hired a male single rated mechanic 2 tech levels above her. I watched as another female maintainer met all the requirements for her Tech III and then was handed an additional list above and beyond what had been expected of her male peers for that same advancement. I watched as yet another female Tech II with her A&P IA pleaded with supervisors to be assigned the tasks required for a promotion while conveniently being assigned to other tasks. Then they hired a male powerplant mechanic as a Tech III and asked her to sign off his work. Yet another female structures mechanic was denied a promotion and raise even though she was the only maintainer certified to perform a specific modification and running jobs. Of those 4 female mechanics 3 have left Western and for certain 2 have left the aviation industry all together. Management is the epitome of the good ole boys club and when an employee comes to them with an issue is it excused or disregarded. If an employee tries to leave they do not try to resolve issues or work with the employee to retain them which is why they have a high turn over rate. Insurance is overpriced and under preforms, management takes no accountability for anything, the work environment is toxic and they try to make you work "mandatory overtime" with substandard wages.
