Pros

You get a free shirt at faculty meetings.

Cons

The current "President" has destroyed what the founder worked decades to achieve and doesn't care anything about the employees except to get rich off of their hard work...his salary has gone from $400K when he first came on to over two million dollars in the span of seven years. Have the salaries of course instructors and program mentors gone up 500% since he came on? His bonuses have been in excess of six figures every year while those who are in the trenches working with students 40-60 hours a week are handed $2000 a year and are expected to drool like dogs in a Pavlovian experiment. WGU was and will never be a great place to work, the current president has given over 1,000 employees two years to move to Salt Lake City in what is considered the biggest shakeup in the university's history. People who have families, homes they have lived in for decades are now expected to pick up and move from where they are now to a city where the cost of living and economy is comparable to California, has a massive homeless population yet it's either move or be terminated. Almost all of his inner circle at WGU and in the front office are either Amazon employees or high up in the Mormon Church...the LDS is strong in this organization and it has shown since he took the helm in 2017. The president is going to create a lot of enemies with this decision, but hey, at least you have a $2 million bus you purchased to increase enrollment instead of giving it to your employees to use. Combine this with his erratic behavior, crying on cue during all staff meetings and his continued disdain for those who made WGU what it was before he destroyed it only proves what a subhuman piece of garbage he is. WGU can reach out to try and find out who I am, I no longer work for this organization because I grabbed the first lifeboat when the USS WGU hit the ice berg and got the heck out of there.

Pros

Other ec’s make work fun and bearable on the hard days. Good benefits and flexible time off is great.

Cons

The constant change is exhausting and every day is something new that normally makes our lives worse in enrollment. First they roll out SSE, then they change how that works, change the name, change the way our calendars work change how we email. Just call it what it is, you want us to be a help hotline and could care less about the counseling part. Gotta keep queue time high that’s literally all that matters to them. If we deal with a broken system and reach burnout and our queue time ever dips then it’s an issue. ECs got the worst end of the deal because we are gaslit into thinking we have careers as counselors and then they treat us like hotline agents but make us “counsel” and are “assigned counselors” so students incessantly email us or call us when the system isn’t set up for that anymore. The commit to start button has been broken from the very beginning and they keep adding enhancements when the basics don’t even work in the SSE portal. Put the enrollment deadlines in the portal front and center please! Feedback is a joke anyways because they never listen to us
