Poor Outlook for Employees - Current Corporate Employee Whirlpool Corporation Employee Review

Pros

Whirlpool still offers relatively competitive salaries and benefits. Work Life Balance is good if you are willing to live in the St. Joseph area. Most areas are flexible and understanding of personal appointments, despite 5-day RTO policy. People are generally pleasant to work with, though much of the top talent and high performers have left. You experience will vary significantly based on your leader. A good leader can help you navigate the environment and advance. However, the number of effective leaders is quickly shrinking.

Cons

Overall, the company is moving backwards and eroding the culture it purports to value. The recent reorg and layoffs are an abrupt shift to a more investor-focused, bottom-line mentality company easily felt from the new leadership group. Two large, announced layoffs in 2024. One smaller layoff that was not communicated widely. Employees are still suffering from the lack of planning and resulting loss of experienced employees almost a year later. Be wary of benefits being rescinded. In the past two years, the company has rolled back or reduced a number of them. "Flattening" of the organization has resulted in inexperienced and erratic leadership at senior levels. It has also eliminated a number of growth opportunities. A disturbing pattern of driving women in people leader roles out of the company, either through policy or poor leadership.

Pros

Strong brand recognition and quality products. A bunch of great people.

Cons

Cult-like relationships: if you didn't grow up in Benton Harbor...Your boss did. I was recruited based on more than 25 years of multifamily housing experience and long-standing industry relationships. After joining, I discovered a substantial portion of my responsibilities involved government and commercial laundry accounts, which were not my area of expertise and were not what I expected from the interview process. The company appeared to place greater emphasis on standardized account management than leveraging established customer relationships and industry networks. For professionals hired because of their market knowledge and connections, this may be frustrating.
