Pros

The Location in case you like nature, is a beautiful place.

Cons

The current staff accommodation leaves much to be desired, lacking adequate space and cleanliness standards. The tenure of management personnel, exceeding 20 years in some cases, may limit their exposure to evolving practices in today's dynamic world. Moreover, there appears to be a pattern of favoritism in top-tier appointments, fostering a culture akin to nepotism. Unfortunately, instances of disrespect and bullying have been reported, impacting the work environment negatively. Allegations of potential repercussions for those who do not align with management's expectations are concerning, creating an atmosphere of apprehension among employees. Overtime demands, at times without consensus, coupled with inadequate compensation in tips and bonuses, contribute to dissatisfaction among staff members. The multitude of issues observed within the workplace could warrant further examination and improvements to cultivate a more supportive and equitable professional setting.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your experience, we appreciate the feedback. We agree, Tofino is a beautiful location and we are proud to be an ambassador for this amazing destination. In relation to Staff Housing, you are correct that space can be limited when sharing with roommates and housemates however every team member is provided in their bedroom; a 5 drawer dresser, twin bed/or bunk, shared closet space and access to a shared bathroom (some within the bedrooms), communal kitchen and living room along with complimentary use of their home/units washer and dryer, cable tv and internet for their all-inclusive monthly rent ranging from $300 - $375CAD. Additionally each home/unit has an On-Site Contact who lives in the home/unit and manages the day to day needs including a cleaning schedule wherein each team member is assigned a basic household cleaning task such as “sweep & mop floors” or “take out the recycling” and given 7 days to complete the task. This maintains a basic level of cleanliness and we trust each team member to clean up after themselves, as would be expected in any living environment. I am disappointed to hear that you do not feel the wealth of management experience is a positive, and not a contributing factor and testament to the Inn’s success and reputation over its 28 years in operation. We are proud to have managers who have been part of our team for over 20 years to mentor new team members as well as a range of newer managers who are able to share their experience at other properties. We can assure you that we value and appreciate everyone’s experience, dedication and contributions to our continued success. One of our Core Values is Growth & Development and we are always looking at ways to improve ourselves, our team and to expand our knowledge to ensure we are staying up to date with current practices. For example, our Leadership Development Program launched in early 2024 with almost half of the Inn’s Leadership’s Team enrolled with the other half attending in 2025. We are also very proud of our Internal Promotion Program which offers our current team members the opportunity to grow their career right here with us, through promotions and increased responsibility. We strongly believe promoting the right person for the job is always paramount. There is no place here for bullying or disrespect and we assure you reported incidents are taken very seriously and we strongly agree that this type if behavior can lead to negativity which is why they are addressed as soon as they are brought to our attention. I would welcome the opportunity to speak with you more should you wish to share additional specifics to ensure all instances have been reported and addressed in this regard or to discuss any other aspect of your review. Thank you for your time and effort.

Hello, We truly appreciate you for sharing your employment experience at the Wickaninnish Inn on Glassdoor and we thank you for your kind words , recommendation and your 3+ years of dedication to the Inn and your role. We certainly appreciate that we do encounter staffing issues due to our remote location and, of course, most recently due to the Pandemic. Remote locations such as Tofino do have a much smaller pool of potential employees and shortage of staff has sadly become the norm throughout Tofino. We truly appreciate the dedication our team has shown to ensure all of our guests remain safe and have a wonderful experience despite the challenges. Will we will continue to support our current and future staff in every way possible as we navigate through these times and sincerely hope we will be able to move through the impacts of the Pandemic in the not too distant future. Thank you so much for your review and we wish you continued success with your future endeavours.
