Base hourly pay. Uncapped commissions. Cool coworkers. Meeting interesting and cool people.
Cons
Base hourly pay is too low by any standard. Unrealistic expectations to hit sales goals and earn that higher commission. You can't just create a reason for someone to add a new line of service onto there current plan and get them to simply agree with you. The need has to be there when they walk in. If you just create a need, they realize you're trying to earn commission and then they leave after they get what they came for. The way that closing is tracked is garbage. They use cameras with facial recognition to view everyone who walks in and out of the store. Employees are saved of course. They then use the number of faces that you have personally seen and the amount of those faces that you have sold either an upgraded device or a new line of service to in order to determine your close rate which is used to determine your overall performance which could cost you your job if you have too many people come in that don't need new lines of service. The other flaw in this system is that you will have repeat customers (both sold and not sold to) come in upwards of 4 times in the same day (codependent and incapable of doing anything themself) or upwards of 8 - 12 times in a week. The cameras reset after about 15 mins or a half hour or something like that. So now your close rate dips because you already got a "no thanks" or have a customer that you already sold to and doesn't need anything else, coming back in and ruining your close rate. The higher ups say that the cameras aren't that flawed but based on the numbers that I took down for myself and compared to theirs, that's a bold faced lie. Some customers may be cool but there are some seriously annoying and codependent whiny babies who can't do shying themself and are so entitled it's almost nauseating. They think for some reason that they are entitled to everything from receiving help with their Facebook issues to being given a discount due to nothing more than an inconvenience or because they can't afford what they signed up for. We couldn't even give them a discount in these retail stores if we wanted to. They then want to speak with whoever is in charge because they want you to receive some sort of punishment for something that you have no control over. All in all, I liked everyone I worked with, including my bosses mostly, the job itself was easy, and the higher pay isn't hard during the holidays, however, management sets unrealistic expectations and they expect you to do more than what you should need to in order to manage the store without extra compensation and the pay base is a joke.
