Pros
Has a fascinating history. WDC was a pioneer in designing and constructing affordable housing for low-income single parent families back when male developers (so, all developers) saw improving a neighborhood as synonymous with pushing single moms and their kids out.
Cons
WDC has won awards for diversity, but in my opinion they're not deserved. The all-white development/management wing is out of touch with their low income tenants. I heard disparaging comments about the South Side neighborhood that WDC is located in and serves. Also surprisingly gossipy for a small office. My whole time there I felt like I was walking on eggshells. I agree that there can be a lot of useless busywork.
My experience was with WDC, but HOC is probably a better place to work.
