Pros

It is a regulated utility, so profits are guaranteed if they do the right things.

Cons

Executive leadership lacks integrity and rarely does the right thing. They claim trustworthy is a core value of the company, but nobody in the c-suite is honest. There is nepotism everywhere at Xcel. Board members get their friends and family corporate jobs that they are not qualified for. I was told during an interview that they look for engineers with family connections at Xcel. Job promotions are not based on merit or hard work. Nobody moves across departments at Xcel. Each department is a tribe where tribe members know the best way to advancement is to be a relative or crony of their senior leader. Merit and hard work have nothing to do with how employees are evaluated and promoted. Xcel is the largest organization I have ever worked for, and I have seen far more nepotism than anywhere else. They make a regular practice of retaliating on employees if they make a complaint to their compliance line. The compliance line is there to protect weak leadership from accountability.

Pros

Standard methods, cloud infrastructure, and reliance on in house staff over contractors makes it very easy to implement safe, fast, consistent changes. You will be valued as a human and you will have a voice within this company. You can make a career here. Your coworkers and immediate leadership are all talented and intelligent individuals who actually know how to do the same work you are doing.

Cons

AI rollout and unevenly applied hybrid work made things difficult for employees with disabilities and those that lived far from office who had traditionally worked remote or for tasks that do not lend themselves well to AI overhead
