Pros

C&Ts receive good health insurance and labor protections (but these positions are being eliminated). Stimulating work if you like data, learning about higher-level statistics and methodology, and emotional intelligence.

Cons

Union-protected positions are being eliminated; replaced by PGA and other M&P positions that are "more flexible" but do not protect or respect your time/work-life balance. PGA positions are extremely underpaid for the work performed. Leadership is woefully out of touch and does not practice what they preach in terms of cultural values, empathy, or respect for employees. Leadership expects people to work into the evening and over the weekends, but will explicitly say they do not have this expectation. Active devaluation of employees performing the daily functions that keep the Center running. There is no real accountability for leadership perpetuating toxic culture; there is no genuine sit-down for discussion of ongoing issues, no way to review their performance and consequently enact lasting change for the better. Unnecessarily stressful environment due to poor planning and lack of engagement (until the last minute) by management persons. Most people who leave do so because of these issues, and there is fairly substantial turnover because leadership fails to address these problems; this Center could be amazing if leaders were held accountable and an effort was made to retain competent, ambitious employees. Would not recommend to others. You will get work experience but at great cost to your mental, emotional, and physical health.

Pros

Great benefits, lots of opportunities, exciting environment

Cons

In academia, where salaries are generally lower than in the corporate sector, there can be a disproportionate amount of arrogance because many people are motivated by prestige and status rather than financial compensation.
