Pros

I joined Yordex as a graduate software developer last month, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here so far. I had the option to work for another fintech start up or Yordex, and I chose Yordex for the reasons listed below: The company Environment: Upon meeting Hardeep (CTO) and Erik the (CEO) at my interview I was sold on the company ethos, environment and their vision for the future. The interview was fairly relaxed and felt more like a friendly conversation than one of those stressful ridgid interviews that everyone hates. Both Erik and Hardeep are extremely welcoming (as is the rest of the team) and not once have I felt pressured or unwelcome here. You can wear what you want, we go out for lunch together and sometimes go out for the occasional drink. Erik and Hardeep are very flexible and understanding about lots of different things. It’s a classic start up environment where everyone has their own say, you can make an impact on the decisions being made and opinions and ideas are always considered. We have regular meetings where we discuss everything from feature implementation to marketing strategy. At Yordex you are allowed to not know something. Asking questions isn’t annoying its encouraged. Everyone is in it together and wants to product to succeed. The work: The work assigned is challenging but with that intellectually stimulating. You work hard (as with any start up) but the work is rewarding, and time seems to fly by. The product is interesting, intuitive and has the potential to be very successful… something which should be taken in to account when deciding whether to join a company. I work as a back-end engineer, and even as a junior dev, have already been working on tickets (bugs) and modifying some features to client specification. I have also been given client facing responsibility (something which you are expected to do as part of joining). If you want to just be cooped up looking at a screen all day with no client interaction this is not the job for you. Furthermore, I have been tasked with heading up the implementation of a Data Warehouse and Embedded analytics, a very important part of the company’s product. Being given this level of responsibility is something which has allowed me to learn a lot. On this point, if you want your first job or any job to be somewhere where you can learn and better both your programming skills and business skills, a company like Yordex is exactly where to do so. That being said you have to want to actually learn and put the time in. I genuinely enjoy working here and like the level of freedom and responsibility afforded to me by Hardeep and Erik. I think the product we offer will make a difference to people in the world of business and also be successful as a business. I also received a new Mac Book Pro after starting which was a nice bonus!

Cons

Its an early stage start up - which is more risky than your BBCs or Amazons
