Pros

You meet one or two decent people on the inside. People on the outside see Zeiss on your CV. Benefits decent.

Cons

Management ride the coat tails of the people who do the actual jobs. And don't recognise their effort. My favourite one- some members of management getting awarded for doing the bare minimum and worse, creating a toxic work environment. Cue jaws dropping to the ground of their newly quaffed carpet. Management rarely took on board your suggestions to make the work more efficient. But happy to leave work early. Management expected miracles from the bare minimum they gave you to work with. Management slow to complete the tasks they said they would complete. Too busy having bogus meetings and drinking free coffee. Meaning your job was harder for longer. I have never in my life felt so belittled or dismissed by management despite my qualifications. I wonder how far down, the company that carries out this year's "great place to work" survey will move the goal posts just so Zeiss can maintain being "a great place to work"... 60%? Or 50%?

Pros

Per diem is nice, and the company car is ok

Cons

There is no ability to effect change; processes are so manual to keep people employed that should be let go, and the company is unwilling to listen to ideas of change. Also, there is no actual product quality, their so called Quality department does not deal with product quality at all, thus systems leaving the factory untested as a whole system or software releases being fully vetted for functionality. Their "Quality department" is only a CYA department to protect them from FDA audits, which quite frankly, could be called a Complaint Conversion Department. What is the point, other than titles, to call themselves Quality when nothing actually is fixed on the products and they are uninterested in end customer user experience or improving the actual product quality and sustainability.
