Pros
The only thing that kept me there as long as it did was the kids at the camp. They deserve an amazing experience and the opportunity to be a kid and be safe. Benefits were decent but nothing to write home about. Career opportunities are there because positions regularly become available because people are regularly quitting.
Cons
- The Zajac Family’s abusive behaviour to staff and to one another - Unfair pay to employees - Expecting employees to work, or what they call “volunteer”, for their events for no pay. They threaten that if you want any chance for opportunity at the organization you have to “volunteer” your free labour - The constant yelling in the office, at employees and at one another - The lack of trust from management in their employees being able to do their job - The most micro-managed roles I’ve ever experienced in my life - Being bullied by management for wanting to use the vacation days that the employee is entitled to - Berating staff if they are 5min late, but expecting that staff will stay for hours after work with no complaints - Offering the bare minimum to employees to JUST come close enough to follow WorkSafe laws - Making you sign in and do work when you’re sick at home - Only being concerned about the money they’re getting and not remotely concerned about the well being of the kids, seniors or the special needs individuals that they’re supposed to be “helping” - Losing colleague friends regularly because no one can put up with the abuse and so they quit - Firing people at random or having people work without signing a contract - Threatening employees - It’s all a façade. The only people who care about the kids and seniors who they’re supposed to be helping end up leaving because they can’t put up with the abuse from management. - Be prepared to bring the emotional toll of work home with you This is just scratching the surface of the issues and abuse that goes on, it goes plenty deeper than that but they do a good job of keeping things under wraps. If you do apply and interview with them, I highly recommend asking them about all these things and demand transparency. I did not leave as a fired, disgruntled employee, I quit because I finally realized I deserved better.
