Pros
can have great co-workers both within department and in others depending on location/turnover- get to work with lots of different people (family members, service members, retirees, etc). have the occasional opportunity to do stuff off site- outreach, etc. little to no daily stress. don't take any work home.
Cons
high turn over of team members, low salary- difficult to create change- boys club of supervisors- poor accountability- many team members get away with not doing their job, lack of punctuality, skipping out when supervisor is gone, etc. little extrinsic motivation to go above and beyond when co-workers who do bare minimum or below that are treated the same. no real evaluation process of employees. mandatory 1 hour lunch break. constantly moving boxes/"working parties." have to do extra things like man the phones of admin on their lunch break or when they are busy or swamped yet little to no reciprocation when career service team needs assistance or coverage. little to no room for career growth- unable to move into management because of lack of opportunities for supervision/leadership. i would only recommend this job to someone if they are going to use it as a stepping stone or resume filler while they work on other endeavors, attend school, live in san diego temporarily, etc. or for retirees. this is a job not a career and shouldn't be viewed as a profession that will provide career growth or profit. Zeiders knows that and that is why the salary & availability for growth won't change because so many military spouses are looking for work that they don't have to try hard to find candidates nor do much to to convince them to join their company.
