Pros

A fantastic place to work — truly one in a million for US-based employees who can get the perks of a European work culture while working fully remote working US hours. The team is small and very fun, with an annual week-long retreat in Europe and an overall encouragement to enjoy your life inside and outside of work. From a work perspective, I'm constantly impressed by the level of skill throughout the team, and the bar is set for hiring A players (as cliché as that is). There is no tolerance for big egos, and hard work is recognized without the red tape or hoop-jumping of traditional corporate jobs. Because ZenMaid does not have a board of directors and is not a public company, there are no layers of bureaucracy like other SaaS companies. At previous companies I've worked at, getting a promotion (or even a small raise) meant justifying myself to a board of directors who had never met me and had no real sense of what I actually did day-to-day. Here, those decisions are made directly by people who know you and your work. There is a huge emphasis on transparency, which is a breath of fresh air from traditional tech.

Cons

The company has operated with a super laid-back (but still very successful) culture for many years, with most employees not based in the US. With that, traditional career ladders or compensation adjustments don't follow any proper schedule. For younger people starting their careers, they might want something more structured, as this way of operating a company is unusual (but great for the right people with prior work experience). They're working on building out more formalities as the team continues to expand, but this could be a negative for those who want that type of clear growth path.

Pros

- Autonomy of work - Flexible working hours - Travel opportunities - Great software and customers - Building something great

Cons

- We're a smaller organization, so obviously that comes with the need for more structure. But, it's an opportunity for impact.
