Pros
Joining a business at such an early stage gives you unbelievable opportunities for ownership, responsibility and to make an impact in ways you could never do in a larger business. The product is incredible to work on, the company is growing up fast with some lessons learned from past mistakes and people are trusted to work autonomously. The people are lovely, driven and dedicated to the cause. People who perform in their role are recognized and rewarded for their contributions. The expectations on everyone are high but that means you are surrounded by talented team mates! We are also 100% remote so you have the flexibility of working anywhere in the world but with plenty of opportunities to get to know your colleagues socially through fun and engaging hangouts, not to mention a yearly face to face kick-off event. I have added more value to my own experience here in a short period than I have in roles I spent years in doing the same thing day in day out.
Cons
It's a startup! so if you want a benefits package with everything under the sun then we don't have that. We need every person to be making an impact every day and in that sense there is no place to hide! Things move incredibly quickly and if you just want to a job that you can cruise by doing the minimum then this definitely isn't the place for you. We let people work 100% remote but in return we do expect a degree of documentation and transparency around what has and hasn't been done. Some have misconstrued that as micromanagement but when you have a team working across 4 time zones, it is vital that they know what you are doing when you log off!
