Pros

My role as an investigator was actually quite interesting. There was a lot of variety in what I needed to do on a day to day basis ranging from background checks on clients to picking up records from police stations. Thankfully my manager allowed the investigators to be pretty independent, as long as we accomplished what was needed to be done. The people I worked with was really what made this a good experience. All of the people in the office I worked in were really fun to work with. It was also a smaller office so you really got to know each other. This was pre-covid so the office would often go out together after work since the office was in downtown Denver. For the most part, all of the attorneys that I worked for were understanding and appreciative of what I did. Food is always a plus as there was always snacks available. Obviously that changed once the staff started WFH but it was a nice perk.

Cons

I don't think I really ever felt good about what I did. Both as an investigator and just working for the firm in general. On a day to day basis I never felt like I was actually helping any of our clients. Granted, there were a few cases in particular where you did feel for the client. However those were uncommon. Even if I did feel good about what I did, the company alone was reason enough to leave. If you plan to take a position here as anything but an attorney, just don't. If you still end up taking a position here be ready to develop a health sense of apathy. That's really the only thing you can do if you plan on staying for a while. I have not seen this level of micro management at a company before. The training or "certification" process alone is abysmal. A training process that should take a week or two, ends up taking months because of amount of inane hoops that you need to jump through. Often you do all of this just to prove that you can do a job that you've been doing for months. There's a clear and distinct separation between the support staff and the attorneys. I know that is probably the case at a lot of law firms but it's very apparent here. For really any support role there's no incentive to do anything beyond the bare minimum. There's such an expectation for everyone at the firm to go above and beyond but they do nothing to reward it. As an attorney you can get the bonuses for signing up extra cases or getting large settlements. As the support staff, you will see none of this. If it's a good year, you can maybe expect a 3% raise. Beyond that, there's just a clear culture of elitism in the firm. All of the top attorneys will gladly swipe any case from their own colleagues if there's enough value in the case. If the top attorneys decide they don't want a case anymore or the client is too much hassle, they'll also dump those on their colleagues. This has created some real distrust within the firm. Additionally, no one seems to trust upper management in general. I was nervous that I wouldn't even get an exit interview, as it wouldn't have been a first. Also, part of the reason for the 1 star rating is to level out the overall average. The firm encourages its clients to leave positive reviews and has bribed clients to take down bad ones. Even though HR denies following this practice with its employees, it certainly happens.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, and we are glad we got to discuss most of this feedback during your exit interview. We enjoyed our discussion during that time and appreciated your candor about your experience. However, we do want to clarify one point of your feedback - the statement that the firm has “bribed”clients to take down bad reviews is false and unfounded. The topic of client reviews was never discussed by you with HR so your statement that “HR denies following this practice” is also untrue. Maybe this was simply a misstatement in your review but it's important to us that you have this clarification. The firm takes pride in maintaining high ethical standards and complying with all rules of professional conduct (this is, in part, why our training process is so rigorous). In the rare instance a client leaves us a bad review, our attorneys do reach out to the client immediately to try to rectify the situation – we want to ensure that if a client is unhappy with the firm, we are doing all that we can to improve the client’s experience even after a case has resolved. And yes, we do ask our clients to share their experience after we’ve helped them resolve their case – not only is that a standard business practice among most law firms these days, it’s also a great way for our clients to help us continue to help others who may be facing the same or similar circumstances. We continue to wish you the best in your new role and we look forward to seeing what you accomplish in the future.

Pros

Getting a pay check you work extremely hard for.

Cons

The most TOXIC, mentally draining, condescending and manipulative places I’ve EVER been employed at. Please just run these reviews are not a joke It’s a volatile environment. I expressed to the ONE HR person they have left how I felt bullied and attacked and was ignored, never even asked why or inquired further. Attorneys and Paralegals who value their careers do not last longer than 6 months to a year here. Employees are often placed on a performance plan with no grounds, no explanation, no examples of whats needed to improved on. This place is a revolving door, it’s never a surpise when someone just stops showing up. If you never want to stand up for youself and you’re alright with attorneys and management not taking accountability for their actions, this is the place for you! also, please be prepared for your mental health to deteriorate rapidly. You get burnt out and expected to work 10+ hour days. Half the time you’re not even doing real work! Micromanagement is also a key component here! This place was a nightmare, would only wish upon my worst enemy to go through this type of mental exhaustion. There is always something wrong or something you can improve on rarley a “good job” moment. When you exceed it’s usually swept under the rug. Also let’s not forget you’re ALWAYS cleaning up someone else’s mess, people leave weekly and they just dump the workload on whoever!
