Don’t recommend joining this place unless there is change - Anonymous employee Zoosk Employee Review

Usually when there are management changes, things are hard. Takes time to adjust. However the situation here is at a different level. When our previous leadership ran this place, we went through tough times but still came out strong financially because they were a good leader who could bring out the best in people. There was trust among people and a clear goal which kept us going forward. I even wrote a good review a while ago about Zoosk and it is so unfortunate that I have to update my review. The new leadership talks the talk but has completely killed what ever was left of the culture. The current mindset is a very short term mindset. Our VP of people and culture left last year and our new leadership does not want to hire anyone for that role cuz they don’t care about establishing a good culture or does not know how. Our new ceo sure says he cares about it but behind closed doors like the feedback sessions or other meetings , he blames everyone, dislikes everything we have. Current thinking is very old school and new people who are joining are from really big companies and don’t understand how startups or smaller organizations work. Due to that everything is being pointed out as either existing people don’t know what they are doing or there are corridor conversations that everything is broken from people to process to product. What is truly broken is trust. Yes we have issues in all the above areas but so do other companies of our size. Let us fix it instead of continuing to blame people. We all own this now and we need to move forward.. There are talks of 3 high level company goals but over the last several months we did nothing to align to the new vision or goals. Product development pretty much came to a complete standstill for past several months. As a result some people have no work or people are focussed on stuff that doesn’t relate to the top goals of the company. New people are scared to touch our product cuz you touch one thing, some metrics fall, there is fear. Guess what , there is no room for error, iterating and learning. You fail, you might as well leave. One failure will be the only thing that will be remembered about you.
