Bullying Culture and Toxic “Management” - Client Support Coordinator annecto (Australia) Employee Review

Pros

The client-facing staff are amazing. I was lucky enough to work with a small team of 4. We supported each other and grew personally and professionally. Office in Ringwood is filled with light and has regular morning teas.

Cons

Management is untrained, inexperienced and unsupportive. One of the main authority figures is loud, obnoxious and prides herself in “breaking” people. She publicly shares staff and punishes for asking questions. Once, in a supervision meeting, she boasted about abruptly telling a manager to shut up and about the subsequent joy she received from seeing his face drop. When these behaviours were brought to HR, further bullying ensued. Furthermore, wages are low. Support workers are under appreciated and mental health considered a liability. For a health organisation, caring for aged and persons with disabilities, they should really have an understanding of supportive frameworks. The organisational culture is truly insidious, parading as inclusive and supportive. They overwork you and take advantage of strong work ethic.

Pros

A couple of wonderful workmates I hope remain friends. I enjoyed my actual role. And the industry. Loved talking with the clients.

Cons

Toxic environment. Flared up my health conditions. Highest turnover I have ever seen, yet management still seems unable to look to themselves for the cause. Hopefully the Board takes psychosocial hazards seriously. HR issues are left to fester as management either unable to deal with conflict, stick their head in the sand or just prioritise other things. No human touch, thinking about the implications of toxic environments and why people pull away to protect themselves because they don’t fulfil their legal and value based obligations. Poor communication company wide. Lack of respect for suppliers and working within the agreed terms. Inability to take a step back and see how a combination of all of the above would make excellent employees leave; and not deal with toxic employees who manage up well but destroy the culture on the ground.
