Pros
I love that I am able to create my own schedule. I have a great work/home balance. I like that I am able to have access to exclusive events, and a high-end clientele. Each appointment and site is very different and it works for me because I like variety. The pay is very fair and competitive. You can literally work at one of the local news stations one day work at a wedding the next. The office staff is normally available and can handle issues quickly.
Cons
Since you are an independent contractor there is little to no bonus structure or room for advancement. Pay totally depends on demand for service. For example, during Oct.-Jan.you can expect above average pay. It is back to school season, wedding season for Texas, Halloween, Thanksgiving,Christmas and New Years etc. Expect to be very busy during this time. However, you will have to become an expert at money management because over the summer, you won't be as busy. It may be due to clients going on vacation or doing more wash and go's due to the summer heat. Or wanting to go for less makeup because of the heat.
