Pros

(Note: I am a current full-time employee in the sales department. This review applies to that department) - Rapidly growing small business with an awesome niche of like-new pre-owned vehicles at killer non-negotiable prices. - Tons of opportunity. You can easily hop onto the sales floor without a pipeline and sell a car a day. We have more qualified, ready to buy leads than we can really handle. - Incredible future potential. Steve Hall has a great vision in my opinion. I believe this thing can grow into a national brand and those who help Steve do it will be well taken care of. - The most fun work environment I've ever been a part of. You can truly be the same person at work that you are at home. Balls are thrown. Music is blasted. You may be challenged to a Red Bull basketball shootout. - The amount of effort you put in directly correlates to your paycheck on the 15th. (pay is semi-monthly with commission checks being paid out on the 15th) - You're treated like an adult and not micro-managed. You are empowered to represent the brand in your own way and deliver results. If you're underperforming, you will have an enormous amount of support from peers and management. - The best ethics I've witnessed at an auto dealer (I've been at quite a few). We pride ourselves on transparency towards our customers. You will not be handed a four square from a sales manager and told to close a customer on payment and down payment. - You are valued and your feedback is wanted. In the automotive retail industry, most sales floors are a revolving door where you are a puppet for a sales manager and treated without respect. That is not the case here. We have incredible leadership that knows they don't have all the answers and have an open door policy (this is metaphoric of course because no one, including our general manager, has an office).

Cons

This job, environment, and culture is definitely not for everyone (as you can see from some of the recent reviews) and we're okay with that. - The schedule. This is retail. You will work a ton of hours. You will be at the mercy of customers who will show up late, early, or not at all to appointments. You will probably feel like you have to come in on your off day to deliver a car. You will work most Saturdays. Management does try to alleviate this by doing things like keeping a stocked kitchen for all employees and being flexible with doctors appts and what not, but that doesn't take away from the fact that you will see your family less if you're used to a 9-5. - There's a ton of change constantly. This is a con for many as well as a pro for others. The pay plan, schedule, benefits, policies, products, processes, etc. can and will change at any time without much notice. If you're looking for stability and consistency, this is not the place for you. - As the company grows, you will be expected to sell more cars to make the same money you were in previous months. - You can probably make more money selling cars at other traditional dealerships. The bottom of the sales board here sell 15-20 cars. Most people sell 20-30. and the top 25% sell 30+ sometimes 40+. Expectations are high. - Lack of communication from leadership. These changes can and will be made without clear communication or notice from leadership. However, as mentioned above, management has an open door policy and is actively looking for ways to improve communication. - This is a small company, so there are not written policies and processes for everything you'll encounter. It is being worked on and improved constantly, but you will have to learn on the fly and adapt. Currently we have 75% of our inventory at an extension lot 5 miles away. Logistics are tough selling over 600 cars from our tiny location. - The people are loud and brash with hearts of gold. Not a con in my opinion, but you may be scared off if you are easily offended and don't take time to get to know people. - You have to be self-motivated. This is not a con for me, but may be for others. You will not succeed without an internal drive.

Thanks so much for what is obviously thoroughly thought-out feedback. I'm sure this will truly help some people feel like they have a good look into working at driversselect. You're right - we aren't the environment for everyone. We're not even the environment for many if not most people who work in the auto dealership world. We are working hard to create a very different work environment from most auto dealerships. In many ways, we feel we are succeeding, but the struggles of balancing a rapidly growing business and trying to be the best retail employer we can be sometimes get in the way. We hear you and we value your insightful thoughts and suggestions. Thank you so much!
