Pros

I’ve been at a few startups now (some successful, some not) and come to appreciate what is a very core, non-quantifiable indicator for an exceptional one… Energy. Throughout my interviews and now 5 months of working here (10 months in startup time), eporta has copious amounts of Energy (and continues to grow). This Energy comes from a great, diverse team who love to learn, have a good laugh and deliver. Its flat structure and openness mean no idea goes unnoticed or not explored. Aneeqa is a great leader who’s mastered the required superposition of a top CEO – looks to the future (leading) and executes on the here and now (managing) at the same time. Not only that, she’s brutally honest about the opportunity and risks we as a company are taking. No wool is pulled over your eyes here. Eporta has a very clear opportunity to truly disrupt and enhance an industry. Clear opportunity + great team = force to be reckoned with. Nuff' said.

Cons

Like all startups, this isn’t for fainted hearted, 9-5 paycheck collectors. Everybody at eporta is committed to the future and grinding hard at building a great career and company. Proverbial blood, sweat and maybe a sprinkle of tears (of joy?!) will be shed, but everyone knows they will be all the better for it. If you find it hard to work in an environment that’s in a constant state of flux and/or prefer to use bravado as a tool to force decisions, then this probably isn’t for you.

Pros

To give some context, after riding the freelance wave for close to a decade heading up design and brand teams I was reluctant to commit to a permanent role (ex Asos, Deliveroo, Moo). Two years down the line I’m still with eporta and continuing to build something amazing. - Great vision, ambitious, global company, clear direction - You’ll never be bored, it’s fast-paced and challenging - You can make an impact fast and be part of something big - An environment with psychological safety where being yourself is encouraged - Design obsessed and product focused CEO - Regardless of level & experience, learning and development are encouraged and teams are set up for success. - Amazing team socials and it’s not remotely cliquey. These are great people - Highly performance focused, recognition and rewards for achievements - Get your hands dirty, it’s not the place for you if you want to coast or just ‘oversee’ - I’m lucky enough to work with a company full of driven but also kind people to deliver work we can be really proud of. The design & brand team has been (and still is) a privilege to lead and that’s down to being full of exceptional designs with ambition who keep me on my toes!

Cons

- Limited work-life balance, work often comes home with me - Salary is benchmarked so there’s no ‘big tech’ paycheck lure - Could always have more plants, it's not *quite* a rainforest yet - Small to medium team means the wrong people decisions can have a big impact

Pros

Flat structure, meritocracy - best idea wins. Problems are solved with input from the entire team, not just senior management. Great office atmosphere/culture - a very diverse team from different backgrounds. Creates an environment where different perspectives can be offered and taken on board. Fast-paced environment - a truly exciting place to work, with a passionate, driven team focused on achieving company goals. Given the opportunity to own your role from the very beginning, no overbearing management. Brings a sense of trust to the team which is so important in a start up that is ever-changing.

Cons

Things can get busy and strategy can change abruptly, but the support of the team is always there to help manage stress levels!
