Pros

This company was part of TutorABC before the split. Both were the same in terms of this review. And you are based on an independent contract/ self-employment basis. As many folks get confused about this before joining. Meeting the students from Mainland China and Taiwan was the best part of the job, as some of them showed great enthusiasm towards learning and developing themselves. And you will retain regulars for those who like you. Including adults and juniors. One good point was that you could schedule yourself for lessons, at the varying times and it was completely flexible. Although, you did have to commit to five hours per week, which were fixed slots. This may have changed again, by the time you have read this review though. It is ideal for freelancers wanting extra work as it gives you the flexibility to schedule your own lessons. And there were decent materials provided. Which were the Oxford University Press modules, for you to teach juniors. There were other materials they created as a company, which were more focused on conversational aspects rather than grammar side of things. Which many tutors found odd, due to the way it was written and some errors within the material. Overall, I would say this company was good to gain experience teaching online and being able to work on a flexible basis as a side job. Since, they provided the lesson materials for you to teach. Although, I wouldn’t recommend anyone relies on it, on a full-time basis. The platform itself was not worth the pay and the communication from the HQ side of things, was terrible.

Cons

The rating system is flawed, since it will go against all tutors. If a student decides to give you a low score, it can deter yourself from getting any further lessons. And the company will have the audacity to side with student no matter what. Even if they turned up 15 minutes late for a 25 minute lesson, they can still give you a low rating. Baring in mind, you will get random students who will do this more often. And the adults may give you a low score because they didn't like the people within their group. So, it was a bizarre an unfair system in place. The pay structure was low and was lowering through the duration I was there. And no room for progression.

Pros

remote, pick your own shifts

Cons

terrible pay, unfair review system (a kid would rate you and if they didn’t want to take the class, they just gave you a bad rating)
