Pros

Treetree was what I thought would be one of the most fulfilling jobs of my career. Unfortunately, that couldn't be further from the truth. I joined the company when there were 2 co-founders that truly cared about the people they employed and the culture they developed. After one of the co-founders left, the company did a 360. There used to be many great things to list about treetree. Now there are none.

Cons

After going through a bunch of changes in leadership and losing big name clients, things changed quickly at treetree. Employees learned to keep our opinions to ourself and put on a happy face to show we were along for the ride. The company says they are caring and genuine, but don't expect that you will get that type of treatment. A tyranny is blossoming and whomever doesn't do their bidding gets the axe. Anyone that's not management level here works tirelessly for next to nothing. Time sheets were scrutinized. Working late hours and on weekends used to come with praise or compensation—now the only response is, "this is how agencies function, get used to it." Due to the constant pressure, disorganization, impossible deadlines and generally working people to the core—many of my co-workers had mental breakdowns. This is considered a sign of weakness at treetree and will put you under risk of being reprimanded or fired. There is also no room for advancement. Employees were told during reviews that job descriptions, creating a career path, and opportunities for growth were not a priority. Management's main focus is making money and making sure that they have a perfect image to anyone on the outside. They want to be the coolest agency in the city, and they'll prove it by spending thousands of dollars on office decor instead of offering raises and bonuses to employees. It seems like the CEO is actively trying to destroy everything that made the company great. The biggest con of working here is there is zero job security for someone on the creative side. You’ll notice that most of the positive reviews here are from the account side—proof of how poorly the creatives are treated. If you don't subscribe to the sorority culture and aren't 100% peppy and perky about everything happening at the office, they will fire you for not being passionate and supportive of the company. For that reason alone, I would not recommend treetree to anyone.

I always appreciate feedback (good or bad) from former employees. It helps me to continue to develop strengths as well as identify and work on my weaknesses. Pros

From the young professional's point of view, treetree agency seems like the perfect place to work on the outset. The company boasts young owners, fun projects, and an open atmosphere. Unfortunately, I found out firsthand that this impression is a facade. Unfortunately for me, this firsthand knowledge also came at a cost to my career.

Cons

Before I started at treetree, I had my doubts. While the owners seemed young and claim to care about doing the "right thing," the truth is that treetree has a history of firing employees for insubstantial and unconventional reasons. The Columbus creative community is small, and they are becoming known as a risky company to work for. The owners seems not to grasp that their irresponsible hiring practices and their tendency to fire-on-a-whim actually harms people's lives.

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit a report about treetree. As many of the reports on Glassdoor reflect, I care very deeply about every single treetree employee. The trees are a family and terminating employment is one of the most difficult decisions we can ever make. As with any organization, large or small, there are certain employee actions or behaviors which will lead to automatic termination. We owe it to our clients and to the entire team to hold fast to these standards regardless of the talent and ability of the offending employee. These reasons may seem inconsequential to some, but we take our code of ethics very seriously and make that clear from day one. I would prefer to be known as a CEO who makes difficult decisions than one who allows that kind of behavior (even once) to stand at the treehouse.
