Pros

Nice staff, office in a convenient location downtown. Good salary.

I was excited to work for this company, but was laid off at the beginning of the pandemic without cause, so was unable to qualify for any benefits while the company did take the wage subsidy available to them as they lowered staff wages to qualify. This stopped me from receiving benefits after being laid off during a difficult time. This is just to say that the company values strongly correlate with their bottom line and money, and less so with loyalty to staff. I was working hours of overtime every day, and had too many clients to provide adequate customer service. Most of their work is done in India, with fewer employees in Canada. The attention to detail for customer's books is affected by this, as lots of general mistakes are found in everyone's books as those doing the work aren't culturally familiar with the type of purchases made by Canadian businesses. The main goals of the company are growth and sales. They often take on irate clients with internal issues, resulting in a high number of churned clients just months into doing business together. Not much vetting happens with the Sales team which is unfamiliar with the basics of accounting/bookkeeping. The staff are lovely people, but do not have enough time to be friendly. Every person puts their head down from 10-20 hours a day to complete their work. Self-learning is promoted and questions are frowned upon. One cannot ask their co-workers for assistance as every one is too busy. I never received a performance review for my work. Stressful work with low job security.

We're sorry to hear about your experience. We regret putting you in a position where you weren't eligible for extra government support. As a growing startup, there's a need to build as we go and learn (hopefully quickly) from our missteps. It's defined in our values. As a newer team, client success is one that has taken time to get right. We're now quite happy with the direction we're going, but naturally we have had struggles along the way. As a services company, client experience and retention is paramount. We’re passionate about the client-base that we serve. We strive to deliver a service that helps entrepreneurs and innovators thrive. We take pride in the work our teammates in India deliver. Ongoing training, feedback, and expectation setting is important for developing all team members. It's exaggerated to say anyone is working up to 20 hours/day, but at times to hit a deadline, extra hours are required. We're still an accounting firm after all and we take deadlines seriously as our clients are depending on us so that they can run better businesses. We wish you well in your next endeavour.

- Chaotic and disorganized workplace with no employee onboarding or formal training - Minimal focus on delivering a solid (or even tolerable) client experience or quality of service - purely focused on getting new clients and "growing" the business - Ethical issue 1: outsources A LOT of work to staff in India but doesn't openly share this information with clients upfront - this ultimately gives foreign workers access to sensitive and confidential information - Ethical issue 2: Enkel exposes clients to high risk of data security without disclosing this to them upfront (very few of the cloud-based software tools are compliant with recognized data security certificates such as SOC1). - All staff are disposable and treated like a means to an end - Poor teamwork because everyone is so busy with their own workload - Lack of job security and high turnover, which creates fear-based company culture

We’re disheartened to hear about your experience at Enkel. We hope you were able to discuss these concerns with your manager and felt empowered to drive change prior to your departure. As a growing startup, we’ve had our share of ups and downs with what the right approaches should be for sales, growth, and delivery. We’ve learned a lot, particularly in the past 4-6 months, and have made significant shifts in our strategy and workflow. Many of these shifts come as a result of feedback from our staff and clients. As a result, we don’t feel that most of what you’ve identified is true of Enkel today. The security concern raised is untrue and we won’t elaborate here given the sensitive nature of data security. We hope that there were some positives in your experience with Enkel that you were able to take with you to whatever came next. Pros

Learn on your own, and get to access lots of system so is a continuous learning. People that are in the technical level are really nice and helpful.

Cons

Management make you work long hours without paying overtime or compensate you, no recognition to the employees at all, very short staff, you are a number there, never appreciate you, benefits are not good. No training and need to figure out the systems. If people call in sick or vacation, there is only couple of people doing all the work for whoever was off. No office equipment provided, you have to bring your laptop. Once they know you are leaving they ghost you the entire time you remain in the company instead of trying to find out what happened! very childish! There needs to be a process in place. They need to hire at least 4 Payroll reviewers, at least another 4 associates, 2 onboarding people that knows payroll so when they take clients, they know what needs to be transfer to the system. Very poor structure, Management are bullies, trying to put down people in meetings and think about the employees that handle their payrolls, but they dont really see that they need to hire more people internally so they can do their job correctly and are not overtired and overworked. People that handle the payroll side are very kind and they tried their best as they care for the company and the clients, however they are always stressed because they have to commit to impossible deadlines.

We understand the challenges posed by long hours and strongly believe that overtime is unproductive. We have implemented processes to ensure that our team does not work overtime over a prolonged period of time. While overtime may be required from time-to-time due to client needs, we firmly believe that resourcing the business is critical to deliver top tier service and importantly, to ensure that our team is able to maintain work-life harmony. We have implemented an in-depth employee onboarding function. Today employees receive in-depth training and are able to access learning through our Learning Management System. We have re-evaluated salaries in all functions and today share salary details about all roles publicly. Furthermore, we have made efforts to ensure that our team members have the opportunity to exceed industries average salaries, particularly as employees progress in their career with us. We apologize if you did not appreciate our technology policy. As you are aware, we provide a technology allowance to allow team members the opportunity to select the systems of their choice. We believe in giving our people maximum flexibility in this area rather than imposing specific tool requirements. Your insights on communication during transitions are valuable. Today we are working with an HR partner that manages the offboarding process. As part of this process a detailed interview is conducted. This feedback is shared with the leadership team so as to ensure that it is well understood and so that necessary changes can be made. I am not clear on your comments regarding bullying.
