Management lacks strategy, sudden redundancies

Pros

Free coffee, 9 day fortnight, bright people in tech to work with.

Cons

Has average pay for tech jobs. Very political. Redudancies happen suddenly at Entain. They call a meeting suddenly to "announce" to that you or a group that has been made redundant. Your immediate managers have no clue about this apparently. They make redundant anyone from an engineer, team lead, manager, delivery leads, product managers, etc. Within a few hours you'll lose all access to the network. You are cut off from communicating with anyone after that. At least have the decency for to allow people to chat and say goodbye on Slack before they return their laptops. I loved what I did at Entain. I worked like a dog across different teams to deliver to stupid deadlines in tech. Never received any negative feedback. So this was a shock to me, my managers and whoever was left in my teams.

Boys club + at the end of the day it's gambling.

Pros

Huge salaries. 9 day fortnight. Yearly bonuses. Giveaways in december. Xmas parties.

Cons

Boys club. High churn. Little to no diversity. Apart from HR, leadership is made up of a tight-knit group of friends who started the business back in the 2000s. You can either become a slave to their unrealistic expectations or get the boot. The benefits are there to keep you distracted from the reality that you're working in gambling. CEO is a money hungry tyrant who has to report profits to the wider UK organisation no matter what. Not so long ago the brother/nephew of the CEO was the COO, but luckily left the company. Alas - his uninformed opinions caused enough damage that everyone there at the time will forever remember this rich white guy trying to outsmart engineers with decades of experience. Expect high pressure, sudden changes of focus, layoffs, and a complete disregard for people who value quality over quantity in their roles.

Pros

- 9 days fortnight - Free coffee

Cons

- Some individuals can be openly toxic without any repercussions. This can lead to general mistrust and passive aggressiveness. - Average pay or slightly over. This is a con because given the industry you would definitely expect above average pay. - A lot of silos. - Managers aren't getting the support to be good managers. - Several recent rounds of redundancy. - Lack of trust towards developers. - General chaos surrounding the development cycle, nobody knows exactly what they are responsible for. Too many tech stacks.
