Pros

Environment Canada can be interesting in terms of dealing with current environmental issues and being in the thick of things. You have the posibility to be implicated in policy making that will guide the country for the next few years.

Cons

Unfortunately, the government structural issues do come into play. low level managers are not hired for their management skills but for the technical skills, making it that you have managers who have a problem delegating work. The federal government has plenty of programs put in place for your development but unfortunately managers are not using them. Even some of the developmental programs are seen as holes to send people you don't want (go figure). Consistency around the department also lacks. Differences between HQ and regional offices are far too big when it comes to much of the HR support.

Promotes lazy culture

Pros

You are not expected to try your best or even at all here so if you are a lazy do the bare minimum type of person you will do well here. Students do all the work. Managers are lazy and the more up you go up the bureaucrat chain the more incompetence you will encounter.

Cons

You often will miss getting paid since the payment system is broken Half the place is sleeping No technically skilled professionals able to teach you to the current industry standard Massive government waste. You spend a ton of your time in meetings you do not need to be in.
