Toxic workplace, steer clear!

Pros

The salary is fairly reasonable.

Cons

Etergo is hands down the worst workplace I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing. Leadership and a large part of the staff are embarrassingly unqualified and some proved to be quite immoral. Any skilled professionals who have crossed Etergo's threshold have left just as promptly as they entered, either because they are too sensible to tolerate such appalling working circumstances or because the CEO or some insecure employee felt threatened by them and decided to play the false rumours game. Staff retention isn't exactly Etergo's strong suit, but people are considered expendable there and treated as such. The CEO is verbally abusive to the staff and takes advantage of his position to intimidate and bully employees. His business decisions are based on whim and ego rather than the best interest of the company or the customer. Not to mention how rude he is to external parties such as suppliers whom he feels he has power over. He demands unreasonable things from staff, irrelevant to their job description, business sense or logic. People are made to spend months fulfilling these demands only to have the CEO change his mind for no professional reason and he blames said employee for having worked on what he himself demanded of them in the first place. He micromanages everything without any knowledge or experience in the field and rejects input from the specialists. Furthermore, the CEO constantly takes credit for other people's work, as do some others who are idle while others work abnormally long hours. Business planning, project management and company goals are like the Code of the Pirate Brethren - more guidelines than anything. Not even that actually, since they change from minute to minute. Flexibility is one thing, treating work like your personal power trip is another. The CEO openly bragged about decisions which are unethical and became almost violently aggressive if anyone raised objections. Most people are too afraid to speak at all and anyone who does is quickly eliminated. The rotten apples amongst the staff have worked out their survival techniques and just prey on others as that seems to be the example they are given from above. Some even wrote some positive reviews on Glassdoor to win points with the CEO after he told the staff they need to do so to balance out the negative (honest) reviews. Just seeing the number of job vacancies and ex employees on LinkedIn at any given moment tells the story, no reviews needed. If you find yourself looking at a job opening at Etergo do yourself a favour and keep on looking. It is not worth your time or effort. Skills, knowledge and basic human decency are not wanted there, neither will you find them.

Horrible Leadership

Pros

The employees are a bunch of nice people.

Cons

Dictator-style leadership. They preach a 'flat organizational structure', in reality this means that one person, and one person only (the CEO) is in charge of all decisions. It's very unfornate that talented people aren't able to do what they're hired for, because everything they initiate is not taken seriously. A couple of times it has already happened that there were 2 people with a similar role, and the weakest performer would be fired (by 'weakest' performer I mean the person that isn't intimidated by the CEO's shouting and threats). What happens on a daily basis is that the CEO summons you to do one thing and then denies this the next day. Areas he has absolutely no knowledge of, or experience in, will still be affected by his decision making, which is not only very frustrating for the specialists in these fields, but it's also affecting the company in general. As you can imagine, employee retention is not even an existing phenomenon here. No corporate values to be found in this place, because the CEO himself can't even live up to those.

Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm very sorry you feel this way about your time at Bolt. It pains me greatly that we weren't able to find a good solution and had to decide to not renew your contract. We value feedback very much and we're always looking to improve every facet of our organisation. So even though these things unfortunately did not become clear to us during your time working with us, I still want to thank you personally for taking the time in retrospect to point out how you perceived things and how this made you feel. Again, I'm truly sorry we did not find a way to make things work. However, I do want to bring some perspective to the statements as they're being put forward, since they are a poor reflection of the day to day reality as perceived by the majority of our employees. First some context: during this period we grew from 7 to 40 people in a few months, setting up multiple new teams in parallel, without having enough time to completely setup processes, systems and workflows in advance. Even though this is a super exciting challenge and provides a lot of opportunities, it also puts more stress on everyone involved. This is a natural part of any startup that becomes a scaleup and maybe even more so for hardware startups where there are many disciplines and processes needed. This experience is different for everyone obviously, but below a few citations (anonymously gathered with Officevibe): April 12, 2018 What's one thing your organization does well to encourage innovations and initiatives? "Freedom to do what you think is necessary" April 10, 2018 What's one thing your organization does well to encourage innovations and initiatives? "There is definite room to suggest solutions and often have them tried out." April 17, 2018 What makes you want to recommend boltmobility.com as a good place to work? "The best atmosphere I worked into in contrast to other companies before." April 17, 2018 What makes you want to recommend boltmobility.com as a good place to work? "The freedom I have in my role as well as the wide scope of work which I am able to do. Along with this - in general, as we are still a small company, there is a lot of room for growth for the future." April 24, 2018 Can you share an example that shows that people from all backgrounds are treated fairly at boltmobility.com? "This is the most democratic work area, I've ever seen in my work-life." April 30, 2018 What do you enjoy most about your workplace? "the good work environment" We have added a screenshot from 25-05-2018 of Officevibe to our photos. We use Officevie to track employee engagement. Every team member has access to this and can anonymously post suggestions, issues, comments or complaints in there and every single one gets read by HR and management. We take all these to heart and try to improve our organisation, process, structure, systems and management accordingly.

Pros

First of all the product is amazing. Even though I'm gone for a while, I still get hyped thinking about the scooter they're making. Secondly the coworkers are simply awesome! It's very inspiring to talk with the engineers and designers.

Cons

My experiences with the CEO haven't been that well. I didn't feel we were on the same page in both my field and in the way how he dealt with his employees.
