Pros

Good salary. Nice food. Few nice benefits. work/life balance is good. Nice office room. Illusion that you are working for space.

Cons

Only paperwork. Forget hand on activities. Other people do it for you. Too much politics. Hence, lack of technical need, high level management corruption, lack of objectiveness in thinking and judging. No advancement in career, unless you do favors to management, and make them feel how special they are (all the time). Most of the working personnel believe that they are the best of the world, thinking that they are living the Hollywood space movies. Lack of team working (since everybody is the best no body needs anyone). Back stabbing is an everyday activity. Trust is a word you read in poetry or in economic activities, but not is ESA. Too much money are spent due to paperwork and procedures than for real work. But as it was mentioned before is part of the politics giving job to other group of people outside of ESA.

Pros

salary but not much else really

Cons

People walking all over each other for promotion; terrible management - especially middle management - some with 'napoleon syndrome' but allowed to get away with it. HR are a total waste of time. The general atmosphere is toxic with lots of internal politics and bad management. The only reason most people stay is for the money.

Pros

Excellent working condition, with good salaries and good work-life balance. You meet people from Europe and from other countries. Most of people you meet are talented, with an open mind, so you have the chance to establish good relationships.

Cons

A bubble. Most of the scientific research is carried out without a focus, since there are few chances to get a permanent position and even if you get it you will e a manager more than a researcher. If you are a young researcher, stay away from this place as it might be a dead end path for your career, if you don't get a permanent position. The working environment is stressful and there is a lot of internal competition despite the high level of salaries at every career stage.
