Lack of supportive and consistent leadership but good place to learn and gain experience
Pros
- Employees in the company are mostly really welcoming. It is easy to communicate with people and feel part of the team from the beginning. - I was learning a lot from my team members and members of other teams. They are willing to give support and help you to learn. - E-commerce is an exciting area to work in. There is a lot to learn about Amazon world and Eva's digital product itself. I was mostly amazed by the digital solutions that Eva offers. - Within certain limits, you can take the initiative and have the freedom to help the company grow and gain new customers, or assist existing ones.
Cons
- There is a huge turnover rate. For short few months when I was working, almost 10 people quit their jobs. - There is a lack of supportive leadership where employees receive constructive feedback to grow and learn. On one hand, there is an opportunity to self-learn and take initiative. However, founders mostly have a top-down approach when it comes to day-to-day execution which creates a lot of confusion. - Although it sells an AI-powered digital product, there is no dedicated team of data analysts and data scientists, only the developer's team. Most of the teams are working long hours to perform tasks manually, which clearly can be prevented by automation. - The salaries are low especially given the super high inflation rates of Turkey. There is no extra pay for commuting. Also, there is no private health insurance which makes it quite difficult to receive health services due to the great exodus happening among Turkish doctors. They "optionally" offer a private retirement package. However, the payment is deducted from your net salary. - The company culture is defined by 4 agreements. However, there is no concrete effort to create an exciting and healthy company culture that is mutually created by employees and leaders themselves. - Overworking is a constant part of the job. Since the majority of clients are in the USA, you are often working in the evenings and weekends (Also, they do not pay overtime even though it is not legal) - The founders are located in San Diego, which has a 10-11 hours’ time difference compared to Turkey. They are mostly communicating via Google Space and e-mail which creates a lack of mutual understanding and knowledge sharing. - There are not many interdepartmental meetings. That creates a lack of communication and exchange of ideas. It also puts strains on creativity and product development. - There was only one face-to-face general company meet-up during my time. Unfortunately, they only invited team leaders to discuss companies vision and future.
