Startup that refused to grow up

Pros

The company can boast unlimited PTO and competitive salaries. The work is very interesting and innovative. The people are great to be around and feel very genuine.

Cons

They are not a very forward looking company in many regards. For a growing startup, they seem hell bent on trying you do things the same way they did when they were smaller. Any suggestions to alter process or approach is met with one irritating question, "what specific issue are you trying to solve?" They need to learn that good process and best practices help to vault throughout much faster than just scrambling to push things as quickly as possible.

Pros

Unlimited PTO. Opportunity to work with a team building a revolutionary product. Career growth opportunities but you have to fight for them. Free lunch once a week. CEO is friendly and approachable.

Cons

Where to start. Lack of growth. Inability to properly address key issues. Any ideas for change are shut down. Say they have a high bar for hiring but have below average compensation and below average benefits. Health plan and 401K options are terrible. Misleads employees about how well the company is doing.

Pros

This is truly a wonderful and rare company to work for. Some of the pros: -Truly a great place to learn with wonderful people -Excellent work life balance for a start-up of its size and trajectory -Experienced, approachable Executive/leadership team -Transparent, honest co-founders -Incredibly talented and effective leadership in the Sales and Customer Success Organizations (which is important for any marketer) -Solid efforts to attract, hire and retain the best talent -A focus on working towards diversity goals -Flexible work options; remote/hybrid etc. -Super fun offsites (outside of pandemic constraints) -The opportunity to truly innovate and build things from scratch -Organ rejection of mediocrity -The ability to work with senior leaders in the CPG/retail/tech industries in a way that would take years or even decades at a corporate to achieve -Opportunities for industry exposure and learning outside the company -Working with world class brands and enterprise customers -Memories and mentors for life

Cons

Any challenges are largely typical of working at any start-up or venture backed company where there will always be pressure to balance the need to hit quarterly ARR targets with long term goals. Also, you'll need to adapt your approach for different personalities and deal with strong and sometimes conflicting options, opinions and strategies (again, typical for a start-up). Further, as you're building out processes and things from scratch you need to rely on your own initiative, creativity and ability to learn, roll up your sleeves and get things done. This is a pro or con depending on what you're looking for. For a person who is looking for growth and true learning, with an entrepreneurial inclination... this is definitely a pro.
