      Pros

      They have been able to maintain some very good people. They tend to say the right things. The benefits are far above average. If you have a good manager, you're probably shielded from a lot.

      Cons

      Inept HR department Execs are too detached from the actual departments. Barely competitive pay if you aren't part of the C-Suite. They tend to not follow their external mission statements internally. They have consistently requested employees perform duties above their grade to "show that they can do the job". They try to be equitable by running salary studies every so often, but then make whatever decisions they feel like they want to make, often contrary to the study.

      A mixed bag

      Pros

      Great benefits, flexible scheduling, many incredibly nice and talented people there, meaningful work, progressive values.

      Cons

      There are a few departments that seemed very friendly and fun, but most appeared really overworked and stressed out most of the time. Departments desperately needed to communicate and work together more. There did not seem to be much opportunity for growth or improvement, although movement between departments happened for some. Not all managers were this way but the management attitude overall seemed to get increasingly authoritarian and unfriendly while I was there. There's some cliquishness among the longer-term employees.

      Pros

      Friendly coworkers. Many recent personal changes have made this a less toxic place to work. The social justice aspects of the organization's goals are positive (and help moral in lean times).

      Cons

      Because they are a non-profit they claim that they can only afford salaries at 90% of their (non-transparent) assessment of your job value.
