First I want to thank this individual for his contribution over the last several months. Working in a startup is challenging, and it’s not for everyone. This individual is the only employee we’ve terminated at Evident since we started the company a year ago. I’m glad to have this opportunity to make some of our core values clear and help others understand how we applied them to reach a decision in this case. Our values are very important to us. We believe in them and hold each other to them. For example, we value high performance, we value constant improvement, and we value meeting commitments. These are values that stretch across our team and make us who we are. Firing someone is not a decision we take lightly. In this individual’s case, his poor performance started five months after his start date, and he was not receptive to repeated attempts to help him course correct. We worked with him for months with no improvement. In this individual’s case, it was a simple decision. He didn’t share our values. Letting him go allows him to find a position that is a better fit for him, and it gives the remainder of our team permission to continue holding each other accountable. As leaders, caring for our team means having the resolve to act based on our values. With that said, there are some specific claims in this individual’s review that I would like to address: * We offer competitive pay. For example, this individual received an 8% raise when he joined us from a Fortune 100 company, and we helped him pay for his final classes toward his graduate degree. * We have a great stock option program and every participant has made their one-year vesting cliff except this individual. * We look for high performers, we don’t count hours. We even have an unlimited PTO program for which we have never turned down a request. * We have only fired one employee in the history of the company, the individual that posted this review. I hope this response has been helpful in understanding our company. We will keep looking for and cultivating the best people that share our values. And while I regret this individual’s situation, we will make changes where there is a clear misalignment. That’s how we’ll build and keep a great team that other great people want to join.
