Pros
For the record, evok is a solid 3.5. Half is not an option here. Growth - You can grow and grow fast here if you do your part. There's so much work that your learning is left in your hands. If you have initiative your career can succeed here. It's a great starter job if you're just out of college. You'll learn a lot in a very short amount of time. Job Security - You won't get fired and you won't feel like you will. They avoid the turnover. People - Most of the people there are awesome, talented people. They're fun to be around and, again most, are hardworking. There's always a few in the crowd but that's anywhere. Building - The building and amenities are nice and new. Fast-Paced - You will not be bored here. EVER. I like that and most people do too when you really think about it. It's very busy leaving you with lots to choose from. You will get to learn things from almost every department and be very involved, especially if you're in account management. Creative Director - Whether you are or are not an artist, he is awesome. He will encourage you, give you advice, help you adjust and be a mentor to you. People like him do not exist everywhere so this is definitely a pro of working there. My overall experience was that they did provide me fair compensation along the way of my "promotions". However, I also know this was not the case for everyone.
Cons
Executive Team - They're great as people but as leaders they struggle. Yes, they are improving but it feels as though no one else is ever heard. What they say goes and that's it and final and if you ask questions or raise concerns you're really just wasting oxygen. As you can imagine, this makes any creative person feel trapped and undervalued. Make no mistake, evok is run as a Dictatorship. Also, account managers should not be trained to act like used car salesman. It's a customer service job, not a sales job. Relationship first, work second. When AM's are good at this I don't recommend training it out of them in the name of process. Creativity - It's lacking. Mostly, in my opinion, because of the above. There are good ideas in that place but they just never seem to come out. Not enough digital, too much old thinking. Millennial or modern thinking is oddly frowned upon there instead of channeled into utility for clients and ultimately, consumers. It's just behind the times. Money - This agency is about money. Not in the kind of "we need to make a profit to stay open, so of course we have to do some things we don't like" kind of way. In the money hungry "do anything regardless of who or what to make a dollar" way. The crazy part about this is that is how they get clients on board so we end up with a majority of our clients taking complete advantage of us and then we give A LOT of work away to make them happy, thus, not making any money at all but actually losing money. Work-life Balance - You can have this at evok, but be prepared to be ridiculed and harassed for it. Leave on time? You're lazy and you don't want to succeed. Take a vacation? You didn't leave your work organized enough before you left and you come back to a disaster. Sick kid? Irresponsible and unorganized. Want work events to bond with co-workers over some fun? Nope, can't do that. Too much work and no one shows up anyway.
