I have been working at Export Development Canada full-time

    Pros

Decent benefits and very friendly coworkers, a great gym.

    Cons

EDC talks a big game, but the way senior management makes decisions about staff and people demonstrates there is little care for people and well being of employees, especially mental health and work life balance.

    Advice to Management

Remember that your decisions about people management will have a long term effect on your business.

I worked at Export Development Canada full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Fully equipped on-site gym.
Conveniently located in the heart of downtown Ottawa.

    Cons

Extreme negligence from management regarding your career development.
Absurd politics and favouritism between employees.
Your work in most cases has zero input into the organization's bottom-line and is simply assigned to keep you occupied.

    Advice to Management

Conduct a thorough audit of middle-management to ensure Directors have the people skills needed to run a team effectively.

Treat your employees with more respect and resolve the inconsistencies in effective management across teams in the organization.

I worked at Export Development Canada full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits and work life balance. Opportunities for advancement. Good culture and excellent corporate values.

    Cons

Areas outside of Audit were true followers of EDC corporate culture and values. CAE, was personable but a few members of Audit management made working there a misery.

    Advice to Management

Audit managers are my interested in people aspects of their direct reports. More concerned with advancing their own careers.

    1) Great benefits
    2) Decent work-life balancé

    Cons

    1) Acting more and more like a bank

I worked at Export Development Canada full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice gym with free classes, okay DC pension (not great), medical/dental benefits are excellent

    Cons

After 3 years of working there, meeting all, and even exceeding some of my objectives, I averaged only 1% salary increase per year, not even meeting inflation.
Career development and training was a joke. I was denied training 2 out of 3 years I was there but my talks with management were constantly about getting a promotion to the next level (which never happened after 3.5 years of talking about it)
Nit picky performance reviews (ex. “You were late for this one meeting 3 months ago...”)
    Micro managing leadership
Management cancelled All culture activities that actually enabled teamwork and improved morale

    Advice to Management

The hiring process is good, you’ve managed to hire competent, productive personnel...let them be productive and innovative.
