Pros

Working with the children; Most of the coworkers I had were alright but there was unnecessary drama every time I turned around.

Cons

Uncompensated travel time (I spent over 2 hours and 100 miles every day just driving from location to location, sometimes spending more time in my car than at the location). Communication is terrible from director to site staff, and the director I had seemed to be on a power trip the entire time - trying to overrule actual school/site staff and essentially zero respect for the people working in her chain of command. The fact that staff loses a week of pay in November for Thanksgiving, and two weeks of pay in December for Christmas, leaves your staff suffering and spending months playing catch-up afterwards.

Working with children. Staff are friendly.

Cons

The owners are greedy tyrants. Employees are grossly under paid and over worked.

Pros

I worked with some amazing families and students, and met some good friends at this job. I actually really enjoyed this job and the entire office staff, including directors, with the exception of the owner(s), as they never once introduced themselves to me, nor did I feel appreciated by them. I enjoyed working the k-plus program the most because it was the closest to a "real" teaching position. Summer camp and before/after school was fun to work, too, but felt more like a daycare or babysitting at times. Summer camp was fun to work at and go on the field trip with the students.

Cons

Split shifts were not fun, especially when you don't live close. But I felt as if I needed to work split shift just to get a pay increase. Also stinks that there is no vacation, sick leave, etc. It's difficult in this position during holidays and snow days because you won't get paid. Overall, the lack of pay is why I had to leave this position. Owners, show some appreciation to your staff - at least get to know them!
